Our training programmes offer tried and tested methods for understanding and engaging in conflict, and navigating difference.

Faith in Change and Conflict

Place for Hope is delighted to be running the inaugural Certificate in ‘Faith in Change and Conflict’ in Scotland in September 2021 & January 2022 (two 3-day blocks, with an additional two 2-hour sessions of online teaching at a date to be agreed with participants)

Note: Dates for two 2-hour sessions for online teaching input will be planned with participants to fit in between Parts 1 and 2 

Knowing there is help and support available can be a great source of hope for those experiencing difficulties and divisions within their congregations and communities, and Place for Hope have a proven record in helping individuals and faith communities find both support and ways through the difficulties. 

This advanced course is for all in leadership (ordained, lay, formal, informal) in our churches who want to deepen their learning about conflict, change and transition in faith contexts, in order to strengthen their skills base for local application.

Over the sessions, the course will cover four units:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to Conflict Transformation and Personal Development
  • Unit 2: Communication and Facilitation Skills
  • Unit 3: Conflict and Mediation Skills
  • Unit 4: Conflict in the Context of Faith

£950 - payments can be made in instalments on request
Fee includes catering, accommodation and training materials

Bullying and Harassment

We know that bullying and harassing behaviour exists in our church/faith communities. How can we respond with dignity and respect as our core values? This new workshop guides participants through the dynamics of bullying, and equips them with ways to respond.

Scripture, Spirituality and Conflict

Growing through Change and Conflict Further Skills

The Further Skills day is is designed for those who have already taken part in the Foundation Day. The aim of this day is to practise skills in conflict transformation in the context of church leadership. The kinds of skills we’ll cover will include:

  • Rapport building and establishing relationships
  • Opening up difficult conversations, and seeing wider perspectives
  • Coming to decisions in good and helpful ways

Growing through Change and Conflict Foundation

This intensive workshop will explore:

  • What is conflict?
  • How does it operate in our churches, or faith communities?
  • What are the different levels of conflict and how do we recognise them?
  • What is my ‘conflict style’?
  • How can I use my skills, or grow more skills to respond to conflict?
